Veľmi pôsobivý dojem vzbudzuje zoznam nominovaných bluesmenov na výročné ceny Blues Music Awards, ktorý pred niekoľkými dňami zverejnila nezisková organizácia the Blues Foundation. Číta sa skutočne ako Kto je kto na súčasnej bluesovej scéne. Uvedenie medzi nominovanými v 25 kategóriách nie je síce ešte víťazstvom, no znamená obrovskú poctu. Hoci sa toto ocenenie považuje za najprestížnejšie na celom svete a teda medzinárodné, okrem Američanov, prípadne Kanaďanov, tam iných bluesmenov nenájdete. Tuším, že jedinou výnimkou bol pred časom len Eric Clapton.
Najväčšie šance v tomto roku má harmonikár a spevák Rick Estrin, ktorý je uvedený medzi nominovanými ako sólista i so svojou kapelou The Nightcats až v šiestich kategóriách – Najlepší harmonikár, Najlepší súčasný bluesový umelec, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Najlepšia kapela, Najlepší album súčasného bluesu (Contemporary Blues Album) za album, ktorý sa aj volá Contemporary a z ktorého pochádza aj skladba Resentment File, nominovaná na Pieseň roka. Okrem toho aj gitarista Christoffer „Kid“ Andersen a bubeník Derrick D´Mar Martin z jeho kapely sú nominovaní ako inštrumentalisti v príslušných kategóriách.
Päť nominácií získal harmonikár Billy Branch a rovnako ako on aj predstavitelia mladej krvi na americkej bluesovej scéne – spevák Sugaray Rayford (5), gitarista Christone “Kingfish” Ingram (5), ďalej The Cash Box Kings (3), Jontavious Willis (2), Larkin Poe (2) atď. To len dokazuje, že blues má ešte stále čo povedať aj dnešným poslucháčom a ani zďaleka nie je odpísaným staromódnym hudobným štýlom. 41. slávnostná ceremónia udeľovania cien Blues Music Awards sa uskutoční vo štvrtok 7. mája v Memphise, kde pred vchodom do Cannon Center for the Performing Arts bude pre hostí rozvinutý modrý pokrovec.
